The Geminid meteor shower, one of the most prolific meteor showers of the year peaks tonight, Dec. 13. Famed for its bright, vividly colored meteors, the Geminids promise a spectacle as Earth passes through the debris left behind by asteroid 3200 Phaethon.

The meteor shower, considered by NASA as the “most reliable” annual shower, tends to release green and yellow colors in the night sky.

The Geminid meteor shower will reach its peak late Friday night into early Saturday morning, which can produce in excess of 100 of the shooting stars per hour during peak conditions.
