Winds may gust up to 50mph inland but on the coast, could reach 80mph, the Met Office said. Those under severe weather warnings have been urged to protect their property by checking for loose items and securing bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds and fences.

The Met Office has issued several yellow weather warnings that could see nearly all of the UK battered by torrential rain and heavy winds. These warnings will be in place for a total of 39 hours, starting on 3pm on Friday and ending at 6am on Sunday.

A series of yellow alerts posted by the Met Office show windy conditions beginning in Scotland on Wednesday evening, before moving south later in the week.

A Met Office yellow warning for rain and wind has been issued for the whole of England, Wales and Northern Ireland - running from Friday at 3pm until Sunday at 6am.

The UK will be affected by a series of low-pressure systems through the second half of the week and into the weekend, bringing very wet and windy weather for some.
