A 19-year-old man suspected of stealing about $42,000 worth of gasoline from a South County gas station was arrested Monday by sheriff’s deputies, officials said. The man was taken into custody Monday morning while he was filling a GMC Yukon with gas at a Chevron station on Sweetwater Road near Prospect Street,

Sheriff's officials said that gas station staff had been working with Chevron's information technology department to tackle ongoing fuel thefts, tracking fuel consumption that did not align with the daily sales figures.

A man suspected of stealing more than $40,000 worth of gasoline from a South Bay gas station over the course of nearly six months this year was arrested on Monday, the San Diego County Sherriff's Department said.
