As biting cold temperatures sweep across a large swath of the US, parts of the Great Lakes face up to two feet of additional lake-effect snow through Tuesday – the latest complication for cities already blanketed by snowfall amid post-Thanksgiving travel.

A lake-effect storm continued to blanket parts of the Great Lakes region with snow on Saturday, closing highways on one of the biggest travel weekends of the year and prompting Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York to declare a state of emergency on Friday in 11 counties.

The long-duration lake-effect snow event along the Great Lakes is entering its fourth day. Nearly 6 feet of snow has already accumulated, and the storm is expected to continue into Tuesday, potentially bringing total snowfall to over 7 feet.
