The National Weather Service has fine-tuned their initial winter storm watch area issued yesterday. Most of the winter storm watch area has now become either a winter storm warning or a winter weather advisory. Here is the current alignment of winter storm warnings, winter weather advisories and even still a small area of a winter storm watch.

Old Man Winter will flip the switch ‘on’ again midweek across the Buffalo metro area where a Winter Storm Watch is now posted Wednesday afternoon through Friday.

A winter storm watch is in effect Tuesday evening through Thursday evening from Charlevoix County south for counties along/west of US-131.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a winter storm watch for parts of upstate New York, effective from Wednesday afternoon through Friday afternoon. Areas Affected: Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties, including cities like Buffalo, Batavia, Jamestown, and Olean.

A winter storm watch is different than a warning or advisory because it is used 1-2 days before the event. Watches are issued when there is increasing confidence in a winter storm, but the event is still 12-48 hours away.

A winter storm watch will go into effect on Sunday afternoon in northern Minnesota, where up to 10 inches of wet, heavy snow could fall.

Storm Watch has been issued for the lakeshore counties and the next set of counties inland from the lake (Kalamazoo, Barry, Kent, Newaygo and Lake). The Watch will be in effect from

An Arctic blast Wednesday will bring West Michigan the coldest air since last January, and is expected to trigger lake effect snow showers Wednesday and Thursday. The snow may be heavy at times, particularly in the snow belt west of US-131.
