A Wisconsin man who officials say faked his own death and fled to Eastern Europe, leaving his wife and three children, turned himself in on Tuesday, according to the Green Lake County Sheriff, who remained tight-lipped on why the man left and where exactly he’s been for past four months.

Ryan Borgwardt, 45, returned to Green Lake, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, nearly four months after he was reported missing when he failed to return home from kayaking on Big Green Lake.

Police had previously said they believed Borgwardt planned his Aug. 12 disappearance and tried to conceal his efforts to mislead investigations.
