Missing kayaker Ryan Borgwardt in custody after faking his death
The bizarre investigation began on Aug. 12 when officials searched Green Lake after the Watertown man didn’t return home. Those searches continued for months until officials announced on Nov. 7 they believed Borgwardt faked his death and fled the country for Eastern Europe to be with a woman he met online.
Borgwardt was initially believed to have gone missing, but investigators later determined he faked his own death.
