Instead of lounging on the couch after Thanksgiving, Americans headed to movie theaters, as the premiere of Disney’s “Moana 2” and the draw of “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” provided a big boost to the domestic box office.

Moana 2,” “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” — are fueling a record-breaking Thanksgiving bounty. Overall domestic box office receipts amounted to $420 million between Wednesday and Sunday, the biggest Thanksgiving haul in history.

That’s not even to mention the windfall that came from the combination of its ticket sales with the other top movies. Together, Moana 2, Wicked and Gladiator II earned the lion’s share of what was the best five-day Thanksgiving period on record with $422 million.
