Shaktikanta Das has demitted the office on Tuesday after completing six years as the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

MUMBAI: One of the biggest validations for RBI governor Shaktikanta Das came towards the end of his tenure. Both the commerce and finance ministers criticised RBI's decision to maintain higher interest rates for an extended period.

Shaktikanta Das will step down as RBI Governor today. In a series of social media posts, he expressed gratitude for the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and stakeholders in the financial sector.

Das will demit office on Tuesday, ending a term which began in December 2018. Revenue secretary Sanjay Malhotra is the new RBI governor.
