Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen took a big chance on one final play call Sunday. He put the ball in Anthony Richardson's hands and the second-year quarterback who was benched by Steichen one month earlier made his coach's decision look smart by running through multiple defenders for the decisive 2-point conversion.

At the end of October, questions lingered on Bryce Young’s availability on the trade market, and Anthony Richardson was in the process of being benched. Few talked much about the potential for the first and fourth picks in the 2023 NFL draft to bounce back, and show why they were taken that high in the first place.

Sometimes the rarity of the moment plays tricks with the memory. It’s called selective amnesia. Exhibit A: Shane Steichen’s all-or-nothing decision with 12 seconds remaining Sunday at Gillette Stadium and his Indianapolis Colts trailing the New England Patriots 24-23.
